At each Duluth Junk Hunt, we will be highlighting a different local organization that we will be donating part of our admission proceeds to!
For Fall 2019, we’ve chosen:

Project Joy

To address the food scarcity needs of children in the Northland

The BackPack Program is a nationwide program, operated and coordinated by individual food banks. Backpack food programs provide nutritious, non-perishable, easy-to-prepare food to children to ensure they get enough food on weekends and holidays when they can’t depend on school meals to avoid hunger.
Every backpack food program is unique to the community and school it serves.

There are a surprising number of hungry children here in the Northland.

A teacher friend shared a story – “I hand out a scoop of cereal to my kindergarten children each day as a snack. One day I noticed a little boy wasn’t eating his and when I asked him why, he told me he wanted to take it home so he and his brother could have it for dinner.”

100,000 weekend kits of food have been distributed to children since 2012.
